Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda is the best place in the world to track wild chimpanzees. The park is home to over 1,500 chimpanzees across its 795 square kilometres of moist evergreen forest, making it the continent’s most chimp dense habitat. Thirteen primate species in total inhabit the forest including red colobus monkeys, grey cheeked mangabeys and the striking black and white colobus. The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary on the park’s edge is a community run birding hotspot with over 200 bird species recorded. Kibale also connects to Queen Elizabeth National Park through the Kyambura Wildlife Corridor, making it a natural pairing on any western Uganda safari circuit.
